An ancient convent now in almost in ruins. Belonged to the Franciscan order. It was founded in 1631 and its architectural style it’s classified as Manueline ( Portuguese Gothic). The building was gravely affected by the earthquake of 1755, after which it was rebuilt. Just after that event put for sale in an auction and then acquired by different people which made its conservation almost impossible until these days. The local council tried it’s best to track the owners but due to a lack of accurate official records it’s been proofed almost an impossible task and consequently, this amazing historic landmark of Monchique is completely abandoned at the mercilessness of times.
